This large beech tree is one of a few near the entrance of a large Milwaukee cemetery. Beech trees are quite majestic trees with multiple large trunks and grand canopies that spread wider than they are usually tall. I walk by this particular tree frequently and stopped on this occasion to examine the picturesque bark. The purple flower tucked into a cleft in the trunk was undoubtedly part of a memorial that someone must have picked up.

This fence is along the north entrance to the parking area of Hartford Avenue School.
These were all found down one alley block in Milwaukee’s Third Ward between Water and Broadway, and Chicago and Buffalo.
