This guy drives around campus and through downtown Milwaukee in his old station wagon covered with religious propaganda. There are baby dolls on the roof that seem to tie in with his anti-abortion messages that can be found pasted on the vehicle and sometimes heard from his outside-mounted speaker system. He blares hate speech and assorted far right diatribes as he cruises slowly down the road. He was doing this 30 years ago when I first arrived at UWM as a freshman. Still going strong. I wonder if that’s the same station wagon?

Taking the Bus Across Town to Comet Cafe
The Sunday bus is never crowded so we got to sit in the very back seat and look out from our throne of emminence.
This bridge always has some fun tags and they change pretty often.
“Samo ain’t dead. Asshole.” Well, good to know.
Fazio’s automotive shop has a nice graffiti-style sign.
Sticker graffiti. I don’t get this one.
I don’t know what this one is about, but I LOVE it! And yes, that’s snow flying. Spring is here!
This little bike shop advertises training wheels for sale. The place looks pretty shabby in general.
We finally made it to Comet Cafe. This is just outside the front door.
Here’s a close up of the Koi painted on the sidewalk that you could see in the last shot. I believe they’re stencils. A friend told me he had seen them elsewhere in the city as well. Very nice.
The mascot of Comet Cafe is the rabbit you can see in the foreground here. I shot this through the back door of the cafe where you can see the Fulbeli Deli across the street.
Comet Cafe is known for it’s cupcakes, as well as it’s meatloaf sandwiches. We opted for cupcakes today. Yum!
You can sit at the booths, at a few tables or at the bar. We were lucky – we got a booth today.
Look Ma – No Hands!
My daughter just decided, seemingly out of the blue, to do a front walkover on the sidewalk while she, her brother and I waited for a bus. I asked her to do it again and this was the moment I captured. She’s on her way to standing upright again, but where the camera froze her was so strange.
I told her I could do that too at her age. I’m not sure she believed me. 😉
