Just Visiting

Those who visit patients at Froedtert and Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin in Milwaukee register and receive a visitor’s sticker. After leaving, many choose to affix their stickers to poles in the parking lot creating a festive collage.

Walking the East Side

These sprinkler connections are on the SE corner of Prospect and North, as well as the next three shots. It was sort of nice today, at least not bone-chillingly cold like it has been pretty much all winter, so I enjoy taking some shots on my walk to and from lunch today.

I have a thing for sewer lids that are painted over in crosswalks and then later shifted, skewing the lines of paint from their original positions. This particular lid is outside the Educator’s Credit Union on Prospect a block south of North Avenue.

This is part of some machinery that is being used to build a new structure across from the Credit Union. I can only describe it as like a long oversized bicycle chain type conveyor that we had to walk under to cross the street. The metal part is about 5 inches high and runs in what I think is a continuous loop along a long red arm of the machinery.

These three similar shots are the cross beams that hold up scaffolding for this new building. They were each slightly different in placement and colors of paint and rust.

This is the side of either the new building or the old building next to the new building. Nice patterns.

Sticker graffiti – typical and plentiful in this part of town.

Above is one of my favorite sets of stenciled koi by artist Jeremy Novy. This is in a back alley across the street to the north of the UWM Kenilworth building (on Kenilworth). Below is a friend and fellow artist photographing more of Jeremy’s koi on a metal plate nearby.

This peeling beauty is located behind Hooligans on Ivanhoe, as is the marked up dumpster below.

These shots above and the two below are on the Prospect Avenue bridge over the Oak Leaf trail.

It Was the Hat That Got Me

image

I feel extremely uncomfortable taking photos of people with a cell phone on the bus, but this preacher’s hat got me. It was a straw hat with religious words and exclamations written all over it in marker and a row of cheap gold Mardi Gras beads around the crown. I waited until after he sermonized the driver and got off the bus, bible in hand, to take a shot. I didn’t do so well,  and didn’t capture the greatness of that hat, but a quick trip through a fun filter saved the image.
