These dolls were made as part of a Works Progress Administration (WPA) project in Milwaukee in the 1930s.

This is the pattern used to make a 22″ doll. It is dated 1935.

This image shows women working on various crafts for the project. All of the photographs in this post were taken at the Museum of Wisconsin Art (MOWA) in West Bend, Wisconsin.

  1. What a great post. It triggered so many memories, since both my mother and grandmother had some of these (or versions of them). Great exhibit to wander through, I imagine. Thank you.
